The festival is the brainchild of Alison Burgos and Michelle Gaber. A year after the Miami-based couple met, Alison was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease, and was soon living in a wheelchair.
After adopting a more plant-based diet, Alison was able to stop taking most of her medications. Her inflammation levels went down to remission levels, she lost a considerable amount of weight and she felt better than she’d ever had. Channeling Alison’s vast experience as a multi-city event producer, along with Michelle’s entrepreneurial talent, the couple launched SEED as a way to bring the message of plant-based, sustainable living to everyone, not just diehard foodies, vegans or athletes.
Says Alison, “We really see SEED Food and Wine Festival as a movement. To engage everybody and really make change, you can’t just preach to the choir. So, whether someone is excited about a Food & Wine Best New Chef like Brad Kilgore cooking at one of our dinners or whether someone is curious about juicing because their friend does it and feels 100 times better, SEED creates ways to engage everybody about conscious and sustainable plant-based living.”
