Seeing the Future: How a Revolutionary New Bacterial Screening Device Can Predict a Patient’s Future for Tooth Decay
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 24, 2014 -- Tooth decay is an epidemic in American children with 50 percent of fifth graders showing active signs of the disease. The World Health Organization says that worldwide, 60–90 percent of school children and nearly 100 percent of adults have cavities. What are the long-term effects of this transmissible infection?
Research is showing a strong connection between the oral bacterial imbalance and serious systemic issues like heart disease. So why is this disease so rampant, yet it is also 100 percent preventable? Answer: There has been no way to properly screen patients for their risk, or susceptibility to the infection before the cavity forms.
Dr. Dhaliwal and his team were not satisfied with the excessive and avoidable statistics and knew they could do better. In an effort to provide the absolute best care modern science can offer, they are now proud to provide the only in-office, chair-side caries susceptibility screening test on the market.
Developed by CariFree, a caries research company, the CariScreen test measures the levels of cavity-causing bacteria in the biofilm in seconds. Never before has such predictive information been available to patients or practitioners. According to Dr. Dhaliwal: "One of the most important goals for me is helping my patients keep their teeth healthy for a lifetime. CariFree has given me advanced tools to assess a patient's risk for dental cavities and a proven method to actually reduce that risk. I can now tailor a patient's treatment to their level of risk and offer preventative solutions to help them stay cavity free for the long term."
For decades the only approach to managing dental caries was to work backwards, drilling out decayed areas of the tooth and patching the cavity. The traditional approach did not tell the patient exactly why they had the disease or what specific things they could do to get better. The drill and fill model, as Dr. Doug Young DDS, MS, MBA (leading expert on dental caries) states, is like “building a deck on a house while it is burning down.” Cathy Przykucki, RDH says this about CariFree: "Finally, a comprehensive and easy system to conquer the war on cavities! It is so gratifying to provide our patients a path to a healthy future free of cavities."
While national statistics on decay rates continue to climb, Dr. Dhaliwal is determined, with the implementation of the CariFree CariScreen test, to stop this devastating disease in its tracks. Patients who go see Dr. Dhaliwal can expect the best assessment, diagnosis and therapy recommendations at their next appointment.

About Dr. Dhaliwal:
I graduated from the University of Southern California with my Bachelors in Sociology. I then traded in the sun and surf for the frigid winters of Boston to pursue my dental degree at Boston University. Alas, the cold was too much for this Southern California boy to bear and I returned home to complete an additional year of training at the University of California, Los Angeles, obtaining my Advanced Education in General Dentistry certification in 1993.
Over the years, I have gone on to complete training in both Neuromuscular and Cosmetic Dentistry at the Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies. I've also earned certifications in implant dentistry as well as IV sedation, so I can offer a full array of options for those of you that are more than just a little nervous about going to see the dentist in San Ramon, CA. My goal is to provide you with comprehensive care, from general to cosmetic dentistry and everything in between, all within a central location: our office. I've been fortunate enough to change the lives of quite a few patients thanks to advancements in these area, whether it was alleviating painful migraines or enhancing their smile through veneers or Invisalign . You can see some of the work I've done in the Smile Gallery.
Outside of dentistry, my passion is photography and sports (I'm a loyal USC alum). Nothing gives me greater pleasure than combining my love for both. If you see me on the baseball or lacrosse field shooting my sons' games, I hope you'll come by and say hello.
I also believe strongly in the power of education. For me, it's about keeping up with the latest in technology, materials, and coursework, so I'm at the leading edge of my profession. For you, it's about sharing that information so you can make informed decisions about your dental health. I take my time during your visits to ensure all your questions are answered. I also make myself readily available via cell phone and email should you have additional questions or concerns once you leave my office. Together, we can keep your smile healthy for a lifetime.
