Selective US Military History Reveals How it is ‘To Be A Soldier’
Durham, N.C. (PRWEB) March 11, 2015 -- From the point of view of a retired infantryman, author Julian M. Olejniczak, comes a debut publication that precisely shows the beauty and challenges of being part of the US armed forces. “To Be A Soldier” (published by Xlibris) is a selective military history of the United States focusing on the Revolutionary War and the contributions of West Point graduates to subsequent wars, with an emphasis on some of the lesser known persons and events of the past 250 years.
“To Be A Soldier” primarily highlights the history of the US Army, stressing the contributions of West Point — first as a fortress in the Revolutionary War, and then as America’s first military academy and engineering school that graduated officers who served in the Army, Air Corps, Air Force and even the Coast Guard, Marines and Navy during all of the nation’s subsequent wars.
By adding the names of the country’s unsung heroes in the last two centuries, this account has painted a vivid picture of what it really means “To Be A Soldier” during the time when less than one percent of the population is serving or has served their country in the armed forces. With this concise primer on American military history, Olejniczak is able to reinforce limited American knowledge and remind them of what made the country great — the valiant heroes of yesterday and today.
“This reminds us all that freedom requires unselfish sacrifice from all at a time when we have volunteer armed forces fighting in the place of average citizens,” the author says.
