Self-Realization Fellowship Convocation August 3-9, 2014 Westin Bonaventure Hotel
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 22, 2014 -- We all strive for balance in our lives, but do we know what this really means? What is our goal in achieving it, and what does it look like?
More than three thousand yogis from all over the world will convene in Los Angeles this August in the quest for a more balanced approach to life’s challenges by attending the annual Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) Convocation. For these spiritual seekers coming from all parts of the U.S., Brazil, India, Italy, New Zealand, Singapore, Cameroon, and more than 40 other countries, this summer’s week-long event from August 3 to 9 at the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles is a unique opportunity for spiritual communion and practical instruction. The event provides attendees with tools to help them face life’s stresses with greater ease and joy, creating a more balanced approach to daily living.
For many, living a balanced life means including a spiritual practice to help us feel centered and ready for the unexpected occurrences that life throws our way. Daily living makes demands on our time, energy, and strength, and if we don’t set aside time to balance this depletion with daily meditation and renewal efforts, we feel increasingly worn down, unable to focus and accomplish our goals. This can have an effect on our bodies, our work, and our relationships.
The teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi and founder of SRF, have inspired many through the years to approach life with a sense of calm and peace to help one better achieve goals – personally, professionally, and spiritually. “Retain evenness of mind under all circumstances,” he states. “In every situation be calmly active and actively calm.”
More and more people are seeking ways in which to balance their busy lives. Jean-Claude Baumgarten, former president and CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council, said recently: “What people want to achieve during their ever diminished time off is undergoing a sea change, with millions more every year demanding destinations that deliver physical, emotional, spiritual and environmental health—along with enjoyment.”
The week-long event offers group meditations, “How-to-Live” classes based on the teachings of Yogananda, kirtans (devotional chanting), spiritual counsel, and fellowship. While some of the program activities are open only to students of the SRF Lessons, evening classes are available to the public at $30 per class. The Sunday night lecture (August 3) is entitled: “Living a Spiritually Balanced Life in Today’s World,” and will explore how to cultivate a spiritual perspective towards daily experiences so that we can better respond to difficult circumstances. Other topics include: “Sustaining a Joyful Heart in Times of Adversity,” “Eliminating Insecurity and Indecision through Positive Thinking and Enthusiasm,” and “Bringing God into Life’s ‘Moments.’”
Attendees who have traveled from outside of the local region to attend Convocation are given the opportunity to participate in pilgrimage tours to several of the temples and sanctuaries established by Yogananda in Southern California, including the SRF Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades – a shrine and meditation garden dedicated to all religions that includes the Mahatma Gandhi World Peace Memorial.
