Senate Bill 3 Causes Unrest Among Medical Marijuana Supporters in Pennsylvania, Drug Rehab Philadelphia Comments
Pennsylvania, PA (PRWEB) June 16, 2015 -- Medical marijuana is making waves again in Pennsylvania as Senate Bill 3 is denied a vote by state representative Matt Baker, who is chair of the house health committee; the bill would allow medical marijuana to be prescribed to adults and children for severe medical conditions, but Baker is withholding the vote because he is convicted in his belief medical marijuana will cause the public more harm than good, citing lack of research into long term use of marijuana for medication, according to Penn Live on June 1st. Impassioned petitioners are taking a stand against Baker’s political tactics, and are demanding the right to decide by means of a vote. SB 3 would allow marijuana to treat conditions including PTSD, cancer, seizures, and multiple sclerosis. Drug Rehab Philadelphia is a drug and alcohol addiction treatment center serving the entire state of Pennsylvania. Providing addiction treatment in Philadelphia, the center is hopeful a political middle ground will be reached, allowing persons the liberty to vote while being shielded from the potential dangers of marijuana.
An associate from the treatment center comments, “Marijuana debates are tricky because the nation hasn’t really made up its mind on marijuana policy yet. Some states say ‘yes’ and others ‘no.’ It certainly makes it difficult to know in which avenue to go. I think we can all agree we have a fundamental right to vote, and that American liberty should never be infringed upon, even for the most well intentioned effort. Although marijuana addiction is in fact more common than the public seems to realize, there are currently states using it as a means to treat a multitude of conditions.
“Like any substance, proper education must be coupled with its administration- should there be any. It’s a difficult decision to make, but ultimately those who are dissatisfied with the political environment of Pennsylvania can move to a state more amenable to marijuana policies for health treatment. It’s not ideal for the political nor public spectrum, but perhaps we need to realize patients want to have the opportunity to treat their medical diseases in all ways, before making a final decision on treatment.
“If we bar them that right, can we really claim to be protecting their well being when we don’t know if medical marijuana, as a prescription dose, can indeed provide long term relief?”
