Suawnee, Georgia (PRWEB) September 26, 2013 -- Senior Solutions Management Group (SSMG), a leading provider of superior quality senior care across the Southeast, today announced that two 50,000 watt solar farms have been installed in two of its East Tennessee senior living facilities as a part of a green energy partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Lakewood Place Senior Living and River Oaks Place Loudon, owned by Family Pride Corporation and managed by SSMG, are the only assisted living facilities in the state of Tennessee with their own solar generation farms. SSMG and Family Pride Corporation installed the solar farms in an effort to become more energy efficient and environmentally conscious. The solar farms currently produce 18 percent of the facilities’ electric energy needs, and the company projects that this number will increase noticeably over time, as they continue to make updates to reduce the amount of energy outputs at the facilities. Such energy-reducing updates include installing new windows, upgrading heat and air systems, and switching over to LED lighting in the assisted living communities. Because farms will produce the same energy output for at least 50 years, and energy costs will continue to rise, the move to solar will prove financially beneficial for the company as well.
The move to solar power in these two communities has already been so successful, that SSMG and Family Pride Corporation have decided to implement more solar farms into the two additional communities they are developing in East Tennessee. The Guest House at Alexander Inn Senior Living in Oakridge, TN and Oakwood Senior Living in Knoxville, TN are both historic structures, but are being completely overhauled into state-of-the-art, LEED certified assisted living facilities. Both new properties will offer residents unique and upscale, yet affordable senior care. SSMG believes that renovating historic properties instead of building new buildings is socially correct and sustainable in practice because of all the stored energy in these old buildings. Despite it being more expensive and technically challenging to renovate and restore old buildings, in the community is left with a facility it can relate to and appreciate for its historic value.
“We look to save and preserve historic buildings and marry that with providing affordable care for seniors at a below market rate, says Rick Dover, Family Pride Group. “When we can join those efforts with environmentally sustainable and energy efficient practices, then it is a win for all involved.”
SSMG’s solar production efforts underscore the company’s commitment to providing seniors with the highest quality living and care facilities.
