Seniors Stay Active, Enjoy Friendly Competition
Tega Cay, SC (PRWEB) September 21, 2013 -- The Tega Cay Golf Club hosted the 2013 Senior Games for Tega Cay, Fort Mill, and the surrounding areas from September 16th to the 18th.
Seniors enjoyed participating in low impact sports such as croquet, corn hole, golf, and walking. The participants were divided into age categories and eligible to win medals based on their groupings. Any adult over the age of 50 is welcome to compete.
“We started the Senior Games five years ago as a way to get seniors out and active; it gives them a sense of community,” says Tega Cay/ Fort Mill Senior Games Co-Founder George Fiegel.
The events culminated with a luncheon at the Glennon Center. The luncheon served as a way to celebrate those who participated.
The Tega Cay/ Fort Mill Senior Games is modeled after The National Senior Games. The National Senior Games Association holds a National Senior Games every two years. To qualify, seniors must place on the local and state level. This past July, Fiegel flew out to Cleveland, Ohio, to compete.
Wellmore, an announced premier retirement community for Tega Cay, was a primary sponsor for the event.
Wellmore will be located on S.C. Highway 160 near the Stonecrest Development. The community will create 130 local jobs in healthcare and management. The community will offer assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing services (pending approval by the state) as well as a community clubhouse, gourmet dining and a wellness center for residents.
Despite the chilly fall weather, the seniors and sponsors agreed that the event was “a lot of fun.”
