Service, Love, and Work Will Combine at Carolinas in Action

Pineville, NC (PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- A day of joyful work will also be a day of hope through eighteen service projects on October 4. Sponsored by Harrison United Methodist Church, Carolinas in Action will connect 300 volunteers with people in need across the area.

“Carolinas in Action will show the community that church does not live within the walls of a building on Sunday morning. God's love and grace is everywhere, and we want to demonstrate that to people in the Carolinas by going out to serve in the name of Christ. This event will impact thousands of people through our partnering agencies, schools, and parks,” said Angela Tate, co-coordinator of Carolinas in Action.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and a worship service at Harrison United Methodist Church, located at 15008 Lancaster Highway in Pineville. Volunteer groups will then gather at 10 a.m. to learn details about their projects before heading to the various sites, which stretch from Charlotte, NC to Ft. Mill, SC. Participants and/or volunteers do not have to be affiliated with The United Methodist Church – or any church – to participate.

Volunteers can learn more and register for any of the following opportunities at CarolinasInAction.org:

  • Repair, building and cleaning projects at area homes, Lois Lodge, Moore Place, Safe Alliance, and The Relatives
  • Maintenance and cleaning at Anne Springs Close Greenway and Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation
  • Lunch service for homeless individuals at Urban Ministry and Salvation Army
  • Organization, cleaning and maintenance projects at Sterling Elementary and Pineville Elementary schools
  • Worship service with older adults at an assisted living center

For volunteers with physical limitations, several projects will take place at Harrison United Methodist Church, including: assembling birthday treat bags for Bright Blessings, making enrichment tools for Bethlehem Center, baking cookies for local inmates, and crocheting sleeping mats for the homeless.

There is no cost associated with any of the service projects, which vary in required skills and duration. Childcare is provided throughout the event for children ages 4 and under.

A dinner is planned for Wednesday, October 7 at 5 p.m. at Harrison United Methodist Church to celebrate the individuals that were impacted by the service projects as well as the event’s volunteers.

Carolinas in Action is funded in part by a Rethink Church event grant from United Methodist Communications’ Rethink Church initiative as a way to help local United Methodist churches in their efforts to make a difference in the world.
