Seton Youth Shelters Begins Year Long Celebration For 30th Anniversary
Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) April 13, 2015 -- Seton Youth Shelters, a Virginia Beach-based 501(C)3 non-profit organization, that exclusively offers assistance to youth between the ages of 4-21 through its two shelters, Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program, and Street Outreach programs. Every year in Virginia Beach, 2,500 runaway reports are filed. With many area shelters accepting only adults over the age of 18, Seton Youth Shelters offers a critical support to the sometimes “invisible” population of homeless youth and teen runaways. Darla Bardine, Policy Director of the National Network for Youth states, “Roughly 550,000 youth in America are homeless for more than a week every year with estimates of 1.68 million youth experiencing a day or more of homelessness every year.” Bardine continues, “Runaway and homeless youth are targeted by and vulnerable to those who want to harm and exploit them because they are unprotected, abandoned and longing for someone to love them. Within 48 hours of being on the streets and homeless, an adolescent is likely to be approached by someone that wants to sexually exploit them.”
“The organization has begun its 30 year anniversary celebration,” stated Jennifer Sieracki, Executive Director. “We have a lot of exciting plans to incorporate our anniversary into all of this year’s events.” The year-long celebration began with asking the community to assist with choosing the key logo to identify this symbolic year. Choosing between two distinctive logos, more than 75 followers voted for their favorite. “This logo will help make our 30th year unique, and will be placed on more than 130 Thrift Store USA donation boxes across Hampton Roads, along with placement on all materials and signage,” added Sieracki.
The celebration is well underway with an announcement reception and bench dedication ceremony on March 12, 2015 in honor of Mr. Michael Inman, one of the founding members of the Board of Directors since 1985.

Seton Youth Shelters’ Café Press specialty store launch: Community supporters and donors have the opportunity to show their support and purchasing various Seton-branded items including but not limited to; coffee mugs, traveler cups, shirts, hats, and mousepads.

Seton Youth Shelters’ 16th Annual Kentucky Derby Celebration: A Silks & Irons Soiree: This event, held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, showcases the first leg of the Thoroughbred horse racing’s Triple Crown run, the 141th Kentucky Derby Stakes at Churchill Downs. It features the LIVE horserace broadcast on a giant-screen for all guests to watch and cheer on their favorite horse. Guests have the opportunity to watch live turf races featuring local horses and riders. A Silks & Irons Soiree will have unique new features to add to the already popular event. Some new features include an expanded Under The Wire VIP area, single VIP tickets, VIP shuttle service for select sponsor levels, and a redesigned Winner’s Circle Silent Auction. Back again, will be live music by Tidewater Drive, authentic Mint Juleps and other libations, Derby Row offering sundry and creative derby-inspired cuisine from local restaurants and caterers, and handmade special desserts by Seton Youth Shelters’ Chef, Lindsay Laird. Month of Mentors: Seton Youth Shelters will honor the mentors from the Mentoring Children of Prisoners program. Since 2006, MCP has provided mentors to youth 4-18 who have been affected by the incarceration of an adult family member. These MCP mentors play the role of a friend-NOT a substitute parent. With a growing wait list and need for mentors, Seton Youth Shelters would like to use June to foster more mentor-mentee relationships.

Specialty Food Item: Seton’s kitchen manager, Chef Lindsay Laird, is responsible for the daily meals of all shelter residents. Cooking to USDA standards, the shelter youth always have a delicious well-balanced meal…with seconds. Chef Laird will be pairing with a local franchise to develop a specialty item.

Prudential Towne Realty Golf Open: Planned by Prudential Towne Realty in Virginia Beach, brings on average more than $18,000 to Seton Youth Shelters’ critical programs and services. With more than 100 golfers each year and various sponsors, this event will be something special.

Through The Looking Glass: A Fashion Adventure: This sell-out fashion show brings the best of local and widely known designers to the Princess Anne Country Club. Through The Looking Glass features a fabulous silent auction, themed lunch, health and beauty exhibits and of course, fashion for all shapes and sizes.
