Sevo Nutraceuticals’ PERCEPTIV™ Memory Supplement Receives Composition and Method Patent
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) December 12, 2013 -- Sevo Nutraceuticals is pleased to announce a significant patent protecting its over-the-counter brain health formula, PERCEPTIV™. U.S. Patent No. 8,597,640 entitled “Over-the-Counter Vitamin/Nutraceutical Formulation that Provides Neuroprotection and Maintains or Improves Cognitive Performance in Alzheimer’s Disease and Normal Aging” was awarded on December 3, 2013 to the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) for pioneering work on the cognitive supplement developed by Dr. Thomas B. Shea and his team. Dr. Shea is the director, Center for Cellular Neurobiology and Neurodegeneration Research.
The patent is based on seven independent clinical studies performed by Dr. Shea and his team, in which the supplement improved cognitive performance not only for healthy adults but also for those with cognitive impairment. The claims of the patent protect the use of the unique formulation of PERCEPTIV in the large and growing segment of brain health and cognitive performance.
Notably, these independent studies were funded by UMass Lowell and the Alzheimer’s Association.
Bernie Prusaczyk, CEO of Sevo Nutraceuticals, said that the patent application was initially filed by UMass Lowell in April 2008. “None of the supporting studies received any corporate sponsorship which puts our company in a unique position. We are proud of the work done by Dr. Shea and his colleagues. This patent is a validation of their passion and efforts long before the product was commercialized as PERCEPTIV.”
Exclusively licensed in 2012 by Sevo Nutraceuticals, the formulation is available without prescription as PERCEPTIV (http://www.thinkPerceptiv.com). PERCEPTIV consists of the identical ingredients used in clinical studies: a precise blend of 3 vitamins (folate, B12, vitamin E), and 3 nutraceuticals (S-adenosyl methionine, N-acetyl cysteine and acetyl-L-carnitine) that collectively provide not only antioxidant protection to brain cells, but also provide an energy source and target a pivotal metabolic pathway (the methionine cycle) that is critical to maintain brain cell health and function. *
While there are many cognitive supplements, and choosing among them can be difficult, PERCEPTIV has proven to be effective by the results of Shea’s multiple independent clinical studies, which have been published in peer-reviewed, scientific journals and presented at numerous international conferences, including the Alzheimer’s Association International Conferences held in Paris and Boston.
