Shady Grove Fertility Patient Wins Ferring Pharmaceuticals 2013 Heart to Heart Contest
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- Shady Grove Fertility patients Aren and Jeff Dodge were the winners of Ferring Pharmaceuticals Heart to Heart contest. Ferring Pharmaceuticals is a major manufacturer of the medications used in the treatment of infertility. Their annual Heart to Heart campaign is designed to raise awareness about infertility including the challenges of battling infertility as well as the joy of parenthood when treatment succeeds.
The Dodges shared their fertility story through a moving video that documented the emotional rollercoaster they experienced, multiple treatments and even a miscarriage, before conceiving their baby, daughter Alison. All of the Heart to Heart video submissions were voted on by thousands of online viewers. As the winners, the Dodges will receive a $15,000 educational scholarship from Ferring.
Aren Dodge recently told their hometown paper, the Faquier Times that she and her husband chose to share their story with the hopes that as more people discuss infertility issues some of the societal stigmas will dissipate. “Infertility can be an isolating experience. Most people don’t understand that infertility is a disorder caused by a breakdown in some part of the male and female reproductive system.”
The Dodges’ physician at Shady Grove Fertility, in Fairfax, Virginia, Stephen J. Greenhouse, MD, comments, “Despite the increasing success of fertility treatment, studies show that almost 50% of the people who experience infertility aren’t accessing treatments that could aid conception.” Dr. Greenhouse continues, “We applaud the courage displayed by the Dodge family and the other contestants. Sharing knowledge is powerful antidote to a challenging problem.”
