Shady Grove Fertility Patients Help Each Other Overcome Infertility, Shares NBC’s The Today Show
Frederick, MD (PRWEB) December 24, 2013 -- Infertility isn’t uncommon – in fact, one in eight couples will have trouble conceiving - but it often goes unspoken among friends. When friends and family don’t understand why it is taking so long to have children, where is one to go for support?
Shady Grove Fertility launched a Facebook page as a place for patients, friends, and other men and women struggling to conceive to share common experiences and find support. Now with over 12,000 community members, this Facebook page is where Sandi and Andrea first met.
Andrea and her husband, Marc, had a long and difficult journey to parenthood. Andrea turned to Facebook to speak to others about her IVF treatment and pregnancy loss. While sharing her journey, Andrea became friends with Sandi, who was going through fertility treatment at the same time with the same physician, Jeanne O’Brien, MD at Shady Grove Fertility in Frederick, MD. By the time Andrea received the news that she was pregnant with twins, her and Sandi had become fast friends.
Sandi had not been as fortunate with treatment, and it was timed to consider other options. Dr. O’Brien suggested that Sandi and her husband, Philip, look into having a gestational carrier. While they dealing with this news, Andrea knew that she wanted to help, and offered to be their gestational carrier and is now pregnant with twins.
On Sunday, December 22nd, NBC’s The Today Show, shared Sandi, Philip, Andrea and Marc’s story. The heartbreak that lead them to each other and how their very special friendship helped all of them overcome infertility. Watch the video at: http://www.today.com/video/today/53896247#53896247.
