Shaka Life Launches New Shirt In Support Of SUP Star And Gender Equality In Sports
MIAMI (PRWEB) June 28, 2018 -- Shaka Life, the authentic brand of wave-infused, active clothing and lifestyle gear, is launching a new womenswear shirt inspired by Stand Up Paddleboarding star, Victoria Burgess. Burgess is not only the muse behind the silhouette artwork of the design, but also the inspiration for its name, Chica Libre. The design is part of Shaka Life’s efforts to promote and support female athletes.
On June 26, Burgess will attempt a World Record by paddleboarding from Cuba to Key West, in what she calls the Chica Libre Crossing (free girl crossing). Shaka Life’s new shirt will be revealed at the landing party in Key West for her historic trek across the Straits of Florida.
“Attempting this crossing is more than just an amazing physical and psychological challenge,” says Burgess. “As a lifelong athlete, gender equality has always been important to me and this is my way of showing young girls and women that we can be whatever we choose to be.”
Shaka Life was founded in 2017 by 17-year-old Elizabeth Perez. As an elite high school water polo player and Junior Olympics gold medalist, Perez feels compelled to work with, and promote, female athletes. Proceeds from the sale of each shirt will go to the Women’s Sports Foundation, an organization dedicated to creating leaders by ensuring all girls have access to sports. “Our brand is inspired by the ocean, but the ‘aloha’ spirit it embodies means so much more than that,” says Perez. “We want to be a brand that all athletes can feel a part of.”
The 100-plus-mile journey, predicted to last more than 30 hours, will end at a landing party at The Southernmost Beach Resort in Key West Wednesday, on June 27.
