Shane Weight Loss Camp Announces Stephen J. Pont, MD, MPH, Renowned Childhood Obesity Pediatrician, Joins Camp Shane as Medical Advisor As Shane Launches New Texas Camp
Croton on Hudson, New York (PRWEB) May 22, 2014 -- Camp Shane, the longest running and most successful children’s weight loss camp in the country, is delighted to announce the addition of prestigious pediatrician and childhood obesity expert, Dr. Stephen J. Pont. Dr. Pont will serve as medical advisor to Camp Shane’s world famous program as it launches a new Texas camp program at the beautiful TMI - The Episcopal School of Texas in San Antonio.
The founding medical director for the Texas Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity at Dell Children’s Medical Center’s tertiary care pediatric weight management center in Austin, Dr. Pont is a leading expert in the field of childhood weight management and healthy living. Through his work with many national organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Children’s Hospital Association, and the Fitnessgram® Scientific Advisory Board, he seeks to help children and their families lead healthier and happier lives through education, community health advocacy, and treatment of the number one epidemic facing children and adults in this country— obesity. His center is committed to their patients’ health both in the clinic and in the communities to which they return and thus their work focuses on four key pillars: CLinical, Education, Advocacy and Research (CLEAR).
Dr. Pont currently serves as Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Obesity and practices clinically at ACES (Activating Children, Empowering Success), Dell Children’s Medical Center’s interdisciplinary weight management clinic. Dr. Pont’s childhood obesity center also offers individual and group family-based programs for children and teens, education, advocacy and research activities. He and his team believe in a holistic approach to helping patients through empowering children and families with education, skills and confidence to form new healthy habits that lead to healthier weights. He hopes to bring many of these approaches to Camp Shane, including possible group sessions for local families and follow-up webinars for campers. Dr. Pont will present weight management tips and strategies to families at Camp Shane Texas' family visiting day this June.
