SHAPE Advisor, Dr. Valentin Fuster, Named Editor of The Journal Of The American College Of Cardiology
Houston, TX (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- The Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (SHAPE) is pleased to congratulate Dr. Valentin Fuster, renowned cardiologist and scientific investigator, on being named the next editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC). He will succeed the current editor, Anthony DeMaria, M.D., beginning in 2014.
With an interest in preventive cardiology and early identification of the vulnerable patient, Dr. Fuster has been SHAPE's distinguished scientific advisor since its founding and is a staunch supporter of SHAPE's call for improving CVD risk assessment and early detection of high risk (vulnerable) patients. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health. He is the Richard Gorlin, MD/Heart Research Foundation and is Professor, Cardiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.
He is also the Past President of the American Heart Association and the World Heart Federation; past member of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's Advisory Council; a member of the Institute of Medicine's Board on Global Health and the General Director of the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (CNIC) in Madrid, Spain.

ABOUT THE SHAPE TASK FORCE
The SHAPE Task Force, an international group of leading cardiovascular physicians and researchers, has created the SHAPE Guidelines, which educates physicians how to identify asymptomatic atherosclerosis (hidden plaque) and implement proper treatment to prevent a future heart attack. According to the SHAPE Guidelines, individuals with high risk atherosclerosis (high plaque score) should be treated even if their cholesterol level is within the so called “normal range”.
