The Sharpsteen Museum would like to take this opportunity to thank all of its members, local businesses and wineries that have so generously supported them in the past. They would also like to take this opportunity to answer comments received over time regarding the change in lot size of the grand prizes. When the Instant Wine Cellar fundraiser was first begun, there was one grand prize of 100 bottles of wine. Due to federal government regulations, the prizes needed to be kept under a certain dollar value to avoid having to also award the winner a 1099 form. At this point, two grand prizes of 50 bottles each became the norm for a few years. Due to the increase in retail value of the wines donated (and because the museum has not raised the price of a grand prize ticket) the grand prizes became three each of 36 bottles with a noted winery sponsor including gift certificates for tastings and tours.
This year, Sharpsteen Museum offers four Grand Prizes as described above. They constantly strive to give back to their community as best they can. Due to the ongoing support of patrons, the museum is able to remain open every day of the year (excluding Christmas and Thanksgiving).
Please join them on August 29 to celebrate their 27th Annual Instant Wine Cellar event.
About Sharpsteen Museum:
The Sharpsteen Museum's permanent exhibits are designed to present the history of the upper Napa Valley from its pre-history to post-World War I with an emphasis on people and changes brought by the period of U.S. emigration and development.
In addition to its many historical exhibits, the museum uses unique and extraordinarily extensive dioramas to depict Calistoga during its period as the elegant 1860s Hot Springs resort developed by pioneer, promoter, publisher, entrepreneur, and California's first millionaire, Sam Brannan. Sharpsteen Museum has special exhibits which change twice a year, every six months, and reflect the varied interests of the people of the Valley. They have ranged from antique silverware to model ships to historical musical instruments.
