Shrinking office space saved by offsite document storage, says PHS Recordsmanagement
Cardiff (PRWEB UK) 15 August 2013 -- A new survey from CoreNet Global shows that the average amount of office space per employee is now just 150 square feet. This has fallen by 33% since 2010, when the average space was 225 square feet.
And of the 200 companies worldwide questioned by CoreNet, over half of respondents believe that the average will fall again to 100 square feet or less within the next five years.
Open plan offices are thought to be behind the decline in office space. More than 80 per cent of respondents said that fewer individual offices are now being assigned in favour of collaborative space.
Document storage service PHS Recordsmanagement believes that companies should consider investing in offsite storage, particularly if they are moving towards an open plan layout.
Managing Director Anthony Pearlgood said: “According to the survey, a third of businesses believe that the shift toward collaborative space is negatively affecting employee performance.
“Regardless of whether your office is closed or open plan, it is important that you prioritise the space of your staff to allow them to work to the best of their ability.
“Offsite document storage is an ideal way to maximise the space you already have. Storing your records offsite allows you to free up room in the workspace without having to discard important documentation.”
The survey shows that employment levels are likely to increase in the second half of 2013, with nearly 60 per cent of respondents projecting a rise.
This may lead to a further reduction in office space, as the number of employees goes up but the workspace remains the same.
Anthony Pearlgood said: “If you are expanding your business but not looking to upgrade or relocate your office, consider investing in offsite document storage as a financially friendly solution to your space saving needs.
“At PHS Recordsmanagement, we have a range of archive storage facilities located throughout the UK. This means there is always a branch convenient to your business.
“We also offer door to door delivery for your archive storage boxes, company files and business documents. Our data archive staff can locate, retrieve and return your files in as little as 2 hours.”
