Siborg Systems Inc. Expands Further in Russia with Tweezer-Like Electronic Meters
Novosibirsk, Russia (PRWEB) September 27, 2016 -- The Canadian manufacturer of the popular handheld LCR- and ESR-meter LCR-Reader, Siborg Systems Inc. has furthered their marketing relationship with SPE Group. The company has agreed to market Siborg’s tweezer-like LCR-meters for Surface Mount Technology in Russia.
SPE Group in Novosibirsk, Russia, is a supplier scientific research equipment for the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science and offers equipment from leading manufacturers such as Leica Microsystems, Hameg Instruments, Tektronix, etc.
With the consumer market pushing for more portable electronics, Printed Circuit Boards are becoming more tightly packed with components to allow for smaller devices. These components can become faulty and testing them using conventional multimeters that require working two wire leads can be troublesome; also, needing to stop and set-up between measurements can dampen work-flow. LCR-Reader is a good solution to these issues; the lightweight LCR- and ESR-meter can automatically determine the type of component and measure accordingly with high accuracy with no set-up required. The lightweight device only requires one hand to operate the tweezer probes; when the tweezers have a grasp on a component, the device measures with a 0.5% basic accuracy and instantly displays the results, including any secondary values such as the ESR, on the built in OLED display.
LCR-Reader was created as a more affordable option for those who wanted a Smart Tweezers device but without the high price but not sacrificing the accuracy. Siborg was able to create a device that was nearly half the price of the Smart Tweezers line by omitting features, including continuity/diode/tolerance check, variable test signal levels, and extensive menu options. A calibration fixture was created that could handle the full range of measurement values for both LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers. After this fixture was verified, Siborg was able to begin issuing traceable calibration for all the devices.
Siborg’s best selling product is the LCR-Reader Pro; a pre-bundled device that includes a calibrated LCR-Reader, NIST traceable calibration certificate, and bent tweezer-tips. Siborg currently offers the LCR-Reader Pro through their online channels on Amazon and their online store.
The LCR-Reader was based on the Smart Tweezers LCR-meter line of professional-grade LCR- and ESR-meters. The most current model, the Smart Tweezers ST-5S offers a 0.2% basic accuracy, and more features than the LCR-Reader, including component sorting, continuity and diode testing, and designated ESR measurements. This model is pre-calibrated with traceable calibration, and comes with a certificate and bent tweezer-probes. Until the end of September 2016, the LCR-Reader Pro is available from Siborg Systems Inc. for $216 USD.
Siborg recently began offering the ST5S-BT; a Bluetooth enabled model of Smart Tweezers ST-5S. The ST5S-BT is able to connect to computer or dedicated Android apps using Bluetooth which allows the device to send a comma separated string of values that represents what is on the display at the time of measurement. Using data processing software such as National Instrument’s LabView, this data can be saved, processed or used as a quick reference guide to past measurements. Being able to record measurements in real-time without needing to stop and record the values by hand allows users to keep work flowing smoothly and reduces mistakes, creating a complete quality control. The string of values sent represents the main impedance value and type, secondary value and type, test signal frequency and level, and measurement mode. The USB receiver dongle is required in order to utilize LabView.
“We first met with Siborg at one of electronics show in Novosibirsk in 2010, and started to distribute Smart Tweezers LCR-meter ST-2 two years later.” says Pavel Fedorov, a Director of at SPE Group, “Siborg’s newer offerings, including tweezer-tools for LEDs, Bluetooth enabled Smart Tweezers, and other affordable products widen our target client base. The availability of LCR-Reader’s new accessories and calibration, as well as the LCR-Reader Probe Connector are products we know our customers will want and need for their day to day work.”
Building on the success of their tweezer-based testing tools, Siborg has begun offering other devices over the year. These include:
Smart LED Test Tweezers that test through-hole and surface mount LEDs with a 12VDC ouput and variable current outputs of 5, 10 and 20mA. This device is also able to be used as tweezer probes when the device is connected to a multimeter using the included cable.
LCR-Reader Probe Connector makes any LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers device into a probe station, testing the complete PCB and allowing to measure components outside the tweezers’ usual spread. With multiple easy-to-change attachments (alligator clip, 4 mm multimeter plug, spade connector, long and medium pin-probes), this device expands the amount of components that the devices would normally be able to measure.
SMD Test Tweezers are able to connect to most multimeters that have 4mm jacks and allow for tweezer precision while measuring components to a 0402 size. This device is priced under $10 and is best for measurements that do not require high accuracy.
All these devices are available from Siborg Systems Inc (Canada) and SPE Group (Russia).
