Sierra College Veterans Center Chosen to be Small Business Development Center HUB for Veterans
Rocklin, CA (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- The Sierra College Veterans Center, a comprehensive center to serve returning veterans in our community, has added a new service – helping veterans connect with the resources of the federal Small Business Development Center program.
The Sierra College Veterans Center was recently chosen to be the hub for veteran services for an eight-county Small Business Development Center region.
“We are excited to add this business counseling component to our Veterans Center,” said Sierra College President/Superintendent Willy Duncan. “We opened the Center one year ago and are thrilled at the response we’ve received as we work to meet the needs of returning veterans.”
The Veterans Center’s Small Business Development Program is being supported by Wells Fargo, a long-standing supporter and partner with Sierra College. The $25,000 donation is part of the Wells Fargo Foundation’s Military Grant Program helping organizations like Sierra College, who excel in providing workforce development and/or basic needs services for military veterans.
“Wells Fargo is proud to partner with Sierra College to work together to meet the needs of our veterans,” said Natasha Mata, Area President of Wells Fargo in the Placer County Areas “The development of our small businesses is critical to our region’s economic growth – and returning veterans should have the resources available to them to succeed in their ventures.”
Sierra College is part of a recently created Capital Region Small Business Development Center that is coordinated by the Metro Chamber. Other partners include Sacramento State’s College of Business, William Jessup University and more than two dozen cities, counties and chambers of commerce.
Small business development centers provide business counseling services to small business owners – counseling that is critical to driving success in new and existing business ventures.
The Sierra College Veterans Center is located on the second floor of the College Library Building. With more than 2,000 square feet of space, the center provides critical resources to assist veterans in enrolling and advancing in their college education.
