Sign Up for NCL by September 20: Conquer Cyber Espionage
Largo, MD (PRWEB) September 17, 2014 -- The battle of cybersecurity rages on. Just in August 2014 alone, there were several massive coordinated cyber attacks: more than four million records against Community Health Systems were compromised; a wave of attacks targeted JP Morgan; and malware compromised systems at 51 franchised UPS stores. Sign up for the 2014 National Cyber League (NCL) Fall Season by September 20 and declare Armageddon on cyber espionage.
Undergraduate and graduate students at two and four-year colleges can sign up to participate in virtual security competitions run by the NCL. Students with varying skill levels in cybersecurity, IT, computer science, networking, and systems administration are eligible.
“The NCL gave our students the opportunity to experience hands-on practice with security-related topics, which directly related to my classroom lessons,” states Bela Erdelyi, faculty at Brookdale Community College. “Participating students were excited throughout the entire NCL process. Teaming up with students from other educational communities during post-season further enhanced my student’s experience.”
One of the distinguishing factors of the NCL is the integration of learning objectives in all its activities. This is accomplished by aligning the preparatory lab exercises available in the NCL Cyber Gymnasiums with the games themselves. Players use the Gym environment to develop knowledge and skills and then demonstrate these newly acquired skills in competitive individual and team play.
NCL measures each participant’s game performance and produces individualized Scouting Reports. These reports focus on respective strengths and weakness amongst various learning objective that include: Open Source Intelligence, Network Traffic Analysis, Log Analysis, Scanning & Reconnaissance, Wireless Access Exploitation, Cryptography, Password Cracking, Web Application Exploitation and Enumeration & Exploitation.
The NCL season is also designed with faculty in mind. Faculty can access freely available resources such as syllabi, recommended textbooks, lab exercises, video tutorials, and much more for inclusion of the NCL into the college classroom.
