Signing Ceremony at Antietam’s Newcomer House

WHAT: Ceremony to sign a new five-year cooperative agreement to operate Newcomer House at Antietam National Battlefield

WHERE: Newcomer House, 18422 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville, MD 21756
WHY: This unique partnership began in 2010, opening the 1780s home as the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area Exhibit and Visitors Center for the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. The new agreement will keep the historic house open to battlefield and area visitors through 2020.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: A reception featuring period music from the Hagerstown Choral Arts Society and light refreshments will follow the signing ceremony, with additional public programming in the afternoon. The event will take place on the 153rd anniversary of the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, and a social media meetup examining #EmancipationInSharpsburg will begin at 12:15.
