Silicon Valley Firefighters Use Denver-Startup App to Keep Super Bowl 50 Safer

Helping them keep track of the vast amount of critical realtime data is a small tech start-up founded by an unlikely entrepreneur – a woman who was the top fire chief for California. Ken Kehmna, Santa Clara County Fire Department’s Fire Chief and Coordinator for the Operational Area Mutual Aid Plan, is focused on coordinating first responder resources to support Super Bowl 50 event activities. Chief Kehmna is no stranger to technology since his department responds to many high tech businesses in Silicon Valley. But using a company headquartered near Denver, CO to connect emergency responders to one another via tablets, smartphones, and computers seems fitting as the Denver Broncos come to California’s tech capitol.

Kate Dargan spent 30 years as a firefighter and fire chief before being appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to California’s top fire post of State Fire Marshal in 2007. It was a first for a woman and followed a career of firsts for her as a firefighter. After retiring, Chief Dargan knew there was a need for better data for firefighters, so in 2010 she co-founded Intterra, Inc. with two partners, David Blankinship and Brian Collins.
