Baton Rouge, La. (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- Louisiana personal injury firm Simien & Simien, LLC, is continuing its investigation into injury and wrongful death claims related to General Motors’ February vehicle recalls as new accusations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Center for Auto Safety continue to emerge. In a joint letter, both organizations are now questioning the GM’s 2001 decision to reject a more effective version of its recalled switches in favor of a cheaper, smaller component.
A Bloomberg report published on April 16 described the letter to GM’s CEO Mary Barra from Joan Claybrook and Clarence Ditlow, the former head of the NHTSA and the Executive Director of the Center for Auto Safety, respectively. According to the report, Claybrook and Ditlow argued that the automaker’s choice to utilize the cheaper part in its recalled vehicles rather than a component which the agencies believe had a more effective design may have led to the 13 deaths and dozens more injuries associated with the faulty ignition switch.
Reuters also reported on April 16 that attorneys for General Motors filed several motions in various defective ignition switch lawsuits around the country. These motions request that lawsuits cease until a federal bankruptcy judge can rule on the issue of whether or not the cases violate GM’s bankruptcy order from 2009.
The attorneys at Simien & Simien are now offering free legal consultations to any person who was injured in one of GM’s recalled vehicles. Persons who wish to report an injury or wrongful death associated with a defective GM vehicle can contact the firm through its website or by calling 1 (800) 374-8422.
