Sisters Publish ‘A Hummingbird in Her Pocket’
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (PRWEB) April 08, 2015 -- Mary Elesa Miner knew the story of Grandma Stone’s hummingbird would make a wonderful children’s book the minute she heard it from her Aunt Lucille. She completed her first draft of the book in 2004. In subsequent years, Miner spoke often of the book and expressed a desire to have it beautifully illustrated and published. Several family members wanted to help either publish or illustrate the book, but busy lives got in the way and the manuscript sat untouched.
In August of 2012, Miner suffered a debilitating stroke that left her with aphasia. Alma Rogers, Miner’s youngest sister, knowing that her sister was lucky to be alive felt pushed to help get the book published. Rogers took on the job of completing the manuscript with Miner and finding and working with both an illustrator and a publishing company. Thus, they published “A Hummingbird in Her Pocket” (published by Xlibris).
“A Hummingbird in Her Pocket” is a real-life story taken from the pages of Grandma Stone's personal journal. The book is filled with colorful paintings from award winning artist Carol A. Pulliam. After reading the manuscript, Carol got to work researching hummingbirds, sketching, and actually visiting Cove Fort, Utah. She wanted to paint an as-accurate-as-possible depiction of the hummingbird, Grandma Stone, and the fort with its surroundings. The story and the illustrations will make readers feel the joy that can come from helping someone or something in need.
"A Hummingbird in Her Pocket" has also been accepted in the Sun Gallery's 26th annual Children's Book Illustrators Exhibition in Hayward California February 26 thru April 11 2015.

About the Author
Mary Elesa Miner was born in Phoenix, Ariz., where she and her husband, Don, raised their four children. She graduated from Arizona State University in Clinical Laboratory Science, Summa Cum Laude. She loves birds, especially hummingbirds, and has several bird feeders in her backyard. She and her husband are retired and have 12 grandchildren.
Alma Rogers is Elesa’s youngest sister and is a third-grade teacher. Recognizing a gem of a story and wanting to use it in her class, she felt pushed to help her sister get it published. She lives in Northern California with her husband, Mike, and five boys.
Carol A. Pulliam is a self-taught artist who began painting in high school. She has a passion for pure, bright color. Her main medium is acrylics. She also likes working with charcoal, pastels, and watercolors. An award winning artist, and an active member of the Fremont Art Association, she has participated in open studios, gallery shows, and private exhibitions. She has four children, four grandchildren, and lives with her husband, Tom, in California.
