Six Healthcare Attorneys to Join Husch Blackwell
DENVER and PHOENIX (PRWEB) June 11, 2014 -- Effective June 30, 2014, six attorneys and several staff members from Miles & Peters, P.C., will join Husch Blackwell LLP. Founded in 1980, Denver-based Miles & Peters focuses on health law matters and is especially well known for its work with post-acute providers, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and physician groups.
With the addition of these six attorneys, Husch Blackwell has welcomed 26 new attorneys across eight office locations since January 1, 2014.

Partner Fred Miles founded Miles & Peters. He is a nationally recognized expert in health law with an emphasis in representing post-acute care providers, and he maintains an active regulatory trial practice. He focuses on Medicare/Medicaid program issues, including fraud and abuse, licensing, certification and reimbursement. Fred Miles has participated in an extensive number of administrative and court trials regarding various licensing and reimbursement cases at the federal level and has appeared in various state courts and administrative forums in the Rocky Mountain region. Fred Miles earned his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law (1968) and his B.A. in History, cum laude, from Doane College in Crete, Neb. (1965).
Partner Kevin D. Peters served as president of Miles & Peters. He focuses on Medicare/Medicaid certification and reimbursement, facility licensure, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and the purchase, sale and financing of healthcare facilities and businesses. A former certified public accountant, Peters advises clients on transactional matters, including managed care contracting, provider contracting and real estate, including leasing, secured financing, mergers, acquisitions and sales. Peters earned his LL.M. in Taxation (1991) and his J.D. (1984) from the University of Denver College of Law, and his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Northern Arizona (1981).
Partner Jim Miles focuses on complex commercial transactions, government relations, regulatory compliance and business planning for healthcare organizations. His clients comprise both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations; Jim Miles assists them from formation through expansion and ultimately with merger or acquisition opportunities. He also counsels on joint venture arrangements between different healthcare provider types, including joint projects between hospitals and physician groups. Jim Miles earned his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law (1996) and his B.A. from Tulane University (1992).
Partner Carol A. Manteuffel represents ancillary healthcare service providers in state and federal regulatory proceedings, Medicare/Medicaid program audits, Office of Inspector General and State Medicaid Fraud Control Units investigations for fraud and abuse, licensing, certification, reimbursement and regulatory compliance matters. She also represents parties and licensed healthcare professionals in administrative proceedings before state and federal agencies and civil litigation in state and federal courts. Manteuffel earned her J.D., cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minn. (1990), her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Minnesota (1980), and her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado (1975).
Senior Counsel Peggy E. Kozal focuses on healthcare litigation, Medicare/Medicaid certification and reimbursement, financial fraud defense, provider contracting, institutional licensing and regulatory compliance matters. She advises healthcare clients on structuring business transactions and identifies critical challenges, providing compliance guidance to minimize risk and promote clients’ objectives. Kozal earned her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law (2001), and her B.A. in Spanish and Journalism from the University of Iowa (1998).
Associate Sadie Sullivan represents and advises healthcare providers and associations in fraud and abuse matters, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, health facility and professional licensing, regulatory compliance, business planning and commercial transactions, and government relations. Sullivan earned her J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law (2012) and her B.A. in Religious Studies from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa (2004).
