Six K-12 and Higher Education Institutions Recognized for Innovative Practices in Student Success
ARLINGTON, VA (PRWEB) June 13, 2016 -- Hobsons is pleased to announce that three K-12 schools and districts and three higher education institutions have been selected as finalists for the 2016 Hobsons Education Advances Awards, recognizing their innovative work to improve outcomes for students.
The awards program is designed to recognize the innovation that is possible when an institution combines people, process, and technology to make a difference in the lives of students.
Finalists for the Naviance College and Career Readiness Award are:
• Emmaus High School, Emmaus, Penn. – After recognizing a need to increase college awareness among students and families, the staff leveraged the Naviance platform to implement a comprehensive plan to disseminate information via small groups and individual counseling meetings.
• Flagstaff High School, Flagstaff, Ariz. -- The counseling department at Flagstaff High School, which serves an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population, has used technology to increase individualized counseling for students, helping students to advance personally, socially, and academically.
• Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township, Indianapolis - MSD of Decatur Township has implemented small learning communities to improve graduation and college-going rates.
Finalists for the Hobsons Admissions and Student Success Award are:
• Northeast Wisconsin Technical College – NWTC has used the Starfish by Hobsons platform to increase faculty-student communication and improve student motivation for learning, resulting in an increase in course success rates by 5.3% and course completion rates by 3.8%.
• Ramapo College of New Jersey, Mahwah, N.J.—Over the past two years, Ramapo has used technology to connect staff and faculty across the college to increases in contacts to at-risk students, meetings with advisors, and increasing the success network of students, leading to an increase in student success.
• University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. – To increase student success and create clear pathways to graduation, the University has centralized offices that assist students with a successful college experience.
Two finalists in each category, chosen by a distinguished panel of independent judges with expertise in the education field, will receive $1,000 for their institution, while the winner in each category will receive $2,500 for their institution.
Winners of the awards in two categories – the Naviance College and Career Readiness Award and the Hobsons Admissions and Student Success Award – will be announced in July at the company’s annual users conferences, the Naviance Summer Institute, in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Hobsons University, in Las Vegas.
