Six Top Oil & Gas Companies Select BeyondRecognition for Document Classification
Memphis TN (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- John Martin, CEO and Founder of BeyondRecognition, LLC, a Memphis-based provider of information governance technology to Fortune 500 companies, announced today that six of the top oil & gas companies have selected BeyondRecognition to provide automatic document classification and attribute extraction technology for their IG initiatives such as file share remediation, migration of content to enterprise content management systems, or consolidation of paper and electronic document silos.
Martin noted, “We are pleased to be selected by large, sophisticated companies facing special information governance challenges.” Some of those challenges include the:
- Sheer volume of documents sometimes measured in millions of boxes of documents and many terabytes of electronic information
- Wide variety of documents being managed – ranging from 50+ foot long well logs and seismic images to construction drawings and more normal office correspondence.
- Time span involved, many times going back over decades.
- Significant merger & acquisition pattern with purchases and sales of assets that involve the periodic transfer of a significant number of underlying documents”
Martin continued “All significant information governance initiatives begin with the accurate classification of documents, and our visual classification technology provides oil & gas companies with tremendous advantages over other technologies or approaches. One is that the classifications are completely automatic and do not require upfront efforts to select exemplars or write complicated rules to define document types. Another significant advantage is that our visual classification does not use or require that there be text associated with the documents. BR’s technology addresses both content and legacy imaged documents the same way. Even documents with no associated text or metadata are accurately classified.”
Martin concluded, “Using our technology companies have in some instances been able to reduce the amount of computer storage by 90% by identifying and eliminating visual duplicates and documents that do not have to be maintained as records. One of our clients that had only been extracting eight attributes per document because of the cost and delay inherent in manual data entry was able to extract 40 attributes from some document types.”
