Skål Atlanta Awards Five Scholarships to College Students
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 06, 2014 -- Five college students received $750 to $1,500 in tuition assistance and a complimentary annual membership to the Skål International Atlanta Club's Young Skål division on Thursday, Feb. 27. Local college professors nominated promising hospitality students for the scholarships, which were bestowed to those with the greatest leadership potential by the club's executive board.
The scholars included three Georgia State University students — Mai Harris, Tonya Shells and Alyssa Bonzek. Other recipients included Alicia Kelly from Gwinnett Technical College and Kelly Hobbs from North Carolina State University.
Skål International is a global network of tourism executives and hospitality professionals. Membership is by invite only, and is extended only to high-ranking executives considered leaders in their field. Membership in Young Skål, however, is open to all young professionals training for or working in the industry who are between the ages of 21 and 29. Four of the five scholarship winners were inducted into Young Skål at last week's event.
"Joining Young Skål offers many benefits," says Bucin Turkkan, Skål International Atlanta Chapter president. "Students can meet local industry leaders, connect with members around the globe and find international internships and mentors — all before graduation."
Annual Young Skål membership dues are $45. Application forms and information may be found at SkalAtlanta.org.
