Ski Vermont Celebrates the First Check In to Win Champ
Montpelier, VT (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- The Ski Vermont Check In to Win challenge is not for the faint of heart. To complete the challenge, participants must experience each of Vermont’s 19 alpine resorts to be rewarded handsomely with skis from Rossignol, or a Burton snowboard. The 2014-15 winter season, year three of the program, celebrates the first winner: Jayne Johnson from Milford, New Hampshire.
Jayne discovered the competition while browsing skivermont.com in early fall in anticipation of another epic winter in the Northeast. "I learned about the competition and a new ski app I had never heard about. It sounded like a fun new kind of adventure,” said Jayne. “I started plotting right then and there. I downloaded the Trace Snow app and learned about all the medals they award for doing things like skiing before 9am, skiing more than a mile or getting more than 20K vertical in a day — I was hooked on the idea.”
She started her adventure at Jay Peak where she also used the Trace Snow app for the first time and grew to love the information it provided and incentives for medals and prizes from Ski Vermont. Earning medals and seeing stats after each day on the hill motivated Jayne and she challenged herself to “ski longer to get my 10K or 20K vertical medal, get earlier starts to get my Early Bird medal and ski more to get my 2, 5, 10, 15 and 19 resorts visited medals. It was just so darn fun to see the stats on the Trace Snow website, too.” For her grand prize, a brand new pair of Rossignol skis, Jayne chose the 2016 Temptation 84 with bindings to match.
The biggest reward for Jayne, however, was visiting new ski areas for the first time, many of which were smaller areas that offer a local, Vermont community vibe. She “was especially looking forward to seeing and skiing Quechee Ski Area, Bromley Mountain, Magic Mountain, Middlebury College Snow Bowl, Cochran’s, Northeast Slopes and Suicide Six,” said Jayne.
Ski Vermont created its annual Check In to Win program to motivate skiers and riders to explore all of Vermont’s mountains – in one season – and to reward those who made a valiant attempt along the way. Many have made great strides to reach the finish line, and Ski Vermont sent out numerous prizes over the last 3 winters to those individuals who have logged days at 2, 5, 10 and 15 resorts in the same season.
During the 2014-15 season, 15,000 skiers and riders created 39,000 session sheets on Trace Snow (formerly AlpineReplay) and have been automatically entered into Ski Vermont’s Check In to Win contest. Users of the app have earned 4,000 Vermont medals for skiing or snowboarding on two or more Vermont resorts.
With April powder days, mid-winter levels of snowpack, and many Vermont resorts extending their closing dates, there is still plenty of time left for skiers and riders to earn prizes by logging ski and ride days on Trace Snow. Winter lovers can download the app and Check In to Win at a new mountain or join the Vermont Most Vertical Challenge to win a 2 night ski and stay package for two for next season.
