(PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- SKY Armory, Syracuse's newest event venue, has begun Phase II of its construction plan. This phase involves a remodeling of the building's first floor to include an additional ballroom for the accommodation of more events and the creation of business space for the provision of services.
SKY Armory's existing ballrooms on the second and third floors, The Wells on Two and The Coverly on Three, will be joined by a final ballroom on the first floor upon the completion of Phase II. The Betts ballroom will be used for events such as corporate meetings, social parties, and wedding ceremonies and receptions. This construction allows the company to provide ample space and options for guests as a three-story party venue. Other areas of the building that will continue to be developed throughout the year include a production area for floral design and prop production, a receiving area, and office space. As Central New York Regional Economic Development Council recommended the project, it will be partially funded by a $400,000 grant from the State of New York.
"With Phase II now underway, we plan to continue providing one-of-a-kind events and positively impacting the Salina Street Corridor economy," explained President and Creative Director Nicole Samolis. "In our research, we found that area venues are often forced to turn down potential clients due to lack of space. They're overbooked, and, as a result, they have to turn people away. As of October 2014, we've been providing an additional option for local events. When the third ballroom is finished in May, we'll be able to accommodate up to 900 guests at a time and host up to 250 events per year. We're still booking for this year and 2016 and have already booked events for 2017, so we feel this volume is attainable. Additionally, our completed event venue will create over 120 jobs with salaries of $30,000 or more and help provide economic prosperity to local vendors such as photographers, DJs, florists, and musicians."
SKY Armory estimates that it will bring in over 50,000 visitors to downtown Syracuse. This includes 50 percent from out of town. Projections have these guests booking over 6,000 hotel rooms and patronizing local businesses such as restaurants, museums, pubs, shops, art galleries, spas, golf courses and other attractions. This injection to the economy should bring in a total of over $5 million in revenue annually. New pavers, lighting, and other improvements to the alley will enhance the adjacent Pike Block development site, and SKY Armory will play an integral role in the Downtown Master Plan section of the Syracuse Master Plan. This plan includes improvements that will contribute to the overall commercial, residential and cultural value of the area. The company also plans to provide job opportunities to inner city teens, who will have the opportunity to receive training for careers in hospitality and events management.
