Slide Introduces World’s First iBeacon Proximity Photo Sharing App for iOS

The iBeacon protocol was developed by Apple to enable close proximity communication between iPhones and hardware devices called beacons. Slide has developed a patent pending use of the iBeacon protocol to turn iPhones into beacons to sense users within picture sharing proximity. “iBeacon’s range of 200 feet is perfect because it covers most private events and ensures your photos will only be shared with friends around you and not the entire block or city. This makes picture sharing between friends at an event more personal,” explains CEO Jesse Molina.
Slide’s interface could not be easier to use. There's no adding friends or following people; users simply show up whenever they enter close proximity. To share, just snap a photo and slide up! Photos populate a feed where they can be viewed, saved to your phone photo library, liked, shared, or deleted. “Our goal is to enhance the experience of being together. We want friends to have an easy way to share photos in the moment and hold engaging conversations around those photos" says Molina.
The beacon market is experiencing significant growth with wide spread deployments at major events such as SXSW in Austin, Texas, and the Coachella music festival in Indio, CA. With the launch of Apple Watch, Bluetooth Low Energy is becoming a more prevalent interface for communication between devices furthering the growth potential of the beacon market. It’s estimated that by 2019 beacons as stand alone hardware devices will number over 60 million units and that does not account for the 2 billion phones which have the capability to be enabled as beacons themselves.
