SMA presents "Interprofessional Burn Specialists Collaborate to Ensure Continuity of Care"
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) July 17, 2015 -- Southern Medical Association (SMA) will hold its 28th Annual Southern Region Burn Conference in Dallas, Texas, November 20-22, 2015. Taking place at the Renaissance Hotel, this event is an energizing learning resource for all burn care disciplines, at all levels of experience. The curriculum focuses on evidence-based medicine, treatment modalities, rehabilitation advances, disaster planning, prevention education, research, outreach programs, and burn units’ work in progress.
The conference rotates each year allowing each burn center in the region an opportunity to host. The program is designed through podium and poster abstracts with Q&A, hot topics panels, as well as invited speakers. The Southern Region attracts experts transforming burn care in the region, including this year’s guest speakers:
Edward E. Tredget, MD, MSc, FRCS(C), President, American Burn Association, Director of Surgical Research, Professor of Surgery, Director, Wound Healing Research Laboratory, Firefighters Burn Treatment Unit, University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
John L. Hunt, MD, Past President, American Burn Association, Past Director, Parkland Regional Burn Center, Professor of Surgery (retired), University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas.
This year’s pre-conferences include Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) courses, a “hands-on” rehabilitation workshop, and a nurses’ symposium. In addition, a tour is planned of the Parkland Regional Burn Center to promote information exchange among members of the multidisciplinary team.
The Southern Region is comprised of 14 states plus Puerto Rico, including 33 burn centers in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
