NEW ORLEANS (PRWEB) December 04, 2017 -- Beautiful V. Lawson, an 18-year-old senior at St. Mary’s Academy, began her reign as National All-American Miss Teen New Orleans after competing in the National All-American Miss pageant Nov. 21-26 in Anaheim, Calif.
Although she did not win the national crown, Beautiful, who competed against more than 90 other teenagers from across the country, took home the Spirit of America Award as well as two outstanding participation trophies. She now plans to use her title as a platform to encourage young women who have been affected by bullying and low self-esteem.
“Preparing for the National American Miss pageant has helped me to increase my confidence and improve my public speaking skills,” Beautiful said. “I know what it’s like to feel like you’re not good enough. I want to show girls my age that they can do whatever they put their minds to. I was blessed to have a family who encouraged me and helped me to see myself as special. I want to be that same blessing to others.”
Beautiful qualified for the pageant after winning First Runner Up in the Actress competition during the state-level National American Miss pageant held in Baton Rouge, LA June 3-5. This was her first time participating in such a competition.
“To have made it as far as I have is a huge accomplishment in my eyes,” she said. “I competed against some very accomplished girls.”
The National American Miss Louisiana pageant keeps all activities and competitions at age appropriate levels. Girls under 12 are not allowed to wear make-up and there is no swimsuit competition. The pageant program is based on inner-beauty as well as poise and presentation, and offers an “All-American spirit of fun for family and friends.” Emphasis is put on the importance of gaining self confidence, learning good sportsmanship, and setting and achieving personal goals.
Beautiful is the daughter of retired Army Master Sergeant and Meet the World Image Solutions Founder Rhonda M. Lawson. She is a member of the youth department at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, and regularly volunteers with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She plans to study Dramatic Arts on the college level. She has already been accepted to Bethune-Cookman University, Philander Smith College, and the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.
