Smart Destinations Releases New Magna Carta Boston History Pass
Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 23, 2014 -- This month, Smart Destinations will release a brand new Boston Attraction Package in conjunction with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), in honor of their upcoming exhibition, “Magna Carta: Cornerstone of Liberty.” The Magna Carta Boston History Pass will feature five top historical Boston attractions – including the MFA – that illuminate the influence of the Magna Carta on American history and its legacy in the modern political American system.
“Magna Carta: Cornerstone of Liberty” is one of the most highly anticipated exhibitions of the summer in Boston. Featuring one of only four surviving copies of the original 1215 Magna Carta, this exhibition explores the legacy of that landmark document with a series of portraits and works of art selected from among the MFA’s collection, alongside historical loans from the Massachusetts Historical Society and other lenders. Featured works include the MFA’s own “Sons of Liberty Bowl,” created by Paul Revere in 1768 and engraved with the words “Magna/Charta” and “Bill of/Rights,” as well as sculptures, portraits, and historical documents related to early American political and social movements. The exhibition will be on view from July 2 – September 1, 2014.
“Since the 17th century, Magna Carta has served as a potent symbol for all Americans seeking protection against ‘the insolent menaces of villains in power,’ as the inscription on the Liberty Bowl states,” said Gerald W. R. Ward, New Hampshire State Representative (D-Portsmouth) and the MFA’s Senior Consulting Curator and Katharine Lane Weems Senior Curator of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture Emeritus. “This exhibition offers the rare opportunity, in this digital age, to see the nearly 800-year-old ‘real thing’ that is the ancient underpinning for so many freedoms and rights that we cherish today.”
In addition to the MFA, the Magna Carta Boston History Pass also includes free admission to the Freedom Trail Foundation’s Walk Into History Tour, the Paul Revere House, the Old State House Museum, and the Old South Meeting House. Each of these attractions complements the MFA’s exhibition in their focus on the people, places, and politics of the Revolutionary War. Smart Destinations customers can explore the MFA, the Magna Carta exhibition, and each additional attraction as part of a total historical Boston experience.
“We’re thrilled to offer this new money-saving package in conjunction with the MFA,” said Judy Gauthier, Regional Director with Smart Destinations. “The Magna Carta exhibit will be a rare opportunity for Bostonians and visitors to see one of the most important documents in American history and we don’t want our customers to miss it.”
The Magna Carta Boston History Pass joins a number of other historically or artistically themed Boston Attraction Packages, all of which are available for instant delivery.
