Smart Grid Energy Solutions Highlighted in New Video
Salem, OR (PRWEB) October 25, 2013 -- One of the problems with today’s antiquated power grid is that historically, storing electrical energy in times of low demand and abundant supply against times of high demand and uncertain supply has been challenging – at least on a scale large enough for a community. This is particularly true when it comes to renewable energy power storage, such as those reliant on the uncertain patterns of wind and sun. IBEW and NECA workers were called in to help overcome the recognized challenges faced in creating an “as needed' renewable storage solution.
A new, experimental facility in the city of Salem, Oregon is promising to change that. The Salem Smart Power Center is the highlight of the latest Internet video documentary from Electric TV. This $23 million dollar facility, part of a massive federal energy project and financed in partnership with Portland General Electric, opened in June of 2013. A hub for one of the most advanced electrical systems in the world, the Salem Smart Power Center was engineered and built by members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). And while the new documentary features a great deal of exciting information about the center and how it promises to provide reliable, large-scale green energy storage solutions for the 21st century, the video also serves to recognize the deep contributions these professional unions and their members have made to the project.
These professional contributions were (and are) vital, as the Smart Power Center is the most advanced such green energy storage facility in the world – and the world is definitely watching. However, project manager Kevin Whitener has no worries. He tells ETV that “…construction of this facility was an absolute home run.” He adds, “When we moved into the construction phase, the journeymen and project managers came on board from IBEW, and we were thrilled the whole time…it was a very good experience.”
Field Supervisor Mark Brinkhouse of IBEW Local 48 tells ETV, “We have a reputation for…quality work – and it works the first time. We’re very meticulous.”
Such statements illustrate why it pays to employ the highly trained professional workers of America’s unions – such as IBEW and NECA.
