Smarter Grid Solutions Wins Second Horizon 2020 EU Funded Project, Taking Active Network Management to Factories of the Future.
(PRWEB UK) 27 October 2015 -- Smarter Grid Solutions is the energy expert partner in the consortium, and will develop an Active Network Management (ANM) system for industrial demand-side management.
The consortium comprises 10 partners from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, The Netherlands and Spain. The OPTIMISED project has a total budget of €7M, from which Smarter Grid Solutions has a share of €675,000, or roughly £477,000.
Active Network Management Enables Industrial Fast-Acting Demand-Side Response
Smarter Grid Solutions’ ANM technology will be used for energy monitoring and control to provide fast acting demand-side response. The ANM system will be fully integrated with other factory management systems, such as SCADA and process control systems, in order to give complete information about the factory’s operational status with specific emphasis on energy management and demand response.
The project will build on Smarter Grid Solutions' experience of demand-side response solutions. In UK Power Networks ‘Low Carbon London’ initiative, Smarter Grid Solutions demonstrated the benefits of using distributed generation and smart electric vehicle charging to provide demand-side response. As a result, UK Power Networks identified £43m of savings to customers. Smarter Grid Solutions has also worked with Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution, to deliver domestic demand management solutions for hundreds of homes across the Shetland Isles.
Graham Ault, Development Director at Smarter Grid Solutions, said “We are delighted to have been awarded our second Horizon 2020 funded project this year. Our ANM technology will enable fast acting demand response – a crucial energy management component for the OPTIMISED factories of the future. Our experience in delivering demand side response solutions to major utility companies in the UK and North America will be invaluable. We look forward to being part of an exciting new energy management initiative for factories across the EU.”
