Smith Appoints Layla Wright as Vice President of Global Purchasing
HOUSTON, TX (PRWEB) September 12, 2017 -- Smith, a global distributor of electronic components and semiconductors, today announces the appointment of Layla Wright to the role of Vice President of Global Purchasing. In this role, Layla will lead Smith’s global procurement efforts and build strategies to expand and develop Smith’s world-class supply base.
Layla joined Smith in 1999 as a purchasing agent and rose through the company’s ranks to lead Smith’s Global Services division as its VP. In 2012, she was named CEO of ServerMonkey, a Smith affiliate. She is now returning to Smith ready to bring new ideas and practices to support the company’s success.
As the leader of Smith’s procurement strategy worldwide, Layla will oversee supplier selection and development, with a focus on expanding Smith’s broad vendor base and cultivating an even more diverse array of product sources to meet customers’ needs. She will manage Smith’s plans for both short-term and long-term vendor management to develop more agile procurement capabilities and responses.
“My key goal is to develop current and potential sources in the global market, exploring new possibilities and also more deeply utilizing our existing, longstanding partnerships with trusted vendors,” said Layla. “Market volatility can require reactive strategies, but diligently building a foundation for flexible, reliable sourcing will help us proactively support our customers around the world.”
Layla’s years of product and market expertise will underpin her efforts.
“Layla has nearly two decades of experience navigating the global electronics market to engineer the most innovative and effective purchasing plans and initiatives,” said Marc Barnhill, Chief Trading Officer of Smith. “Now she will directly shape and oversee Smith’s vendor base, which will strengthen our ability to deliver customers the products and support they need. We look forward to seeing how she can help Smith continue to evolve.”
