SoCal Taco Caterers, Rasta Taco, Launch Petition to Participate in Taco Fundraiser
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- Farcically appealing for “no tacos left behind” and evoking the defiant cry of the Spanish Civil War, “¡No pasarán!”, Rasta Taco, the preeminent, reggae-inspired Los Angeles taco catering company, has launched an online petition calling on the LA Weekly to allow the company to participate in this year’s Tacolandia 2015 event and fundraiser. The esteemed alternative weekly newspaper sponsors the annual event.
“Obviously we want to participate in the event, first and foremost because we know we make delicious, gourmet tacos,” said Prietto. “We have a desire to put them in front of the public, a bunch of taco-loving Angelenos, and we want to support the fundraiser.”
The event, to be held on Saturday, June 6th at El Pueblo de Los Angeles, features 80 top taco vendors who will hand out samples of signature tacos to attendees as well as entertainment. A portion of proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the El Pueblo Park Association, which acts as steward and advocates for the historic plaza.
Satirically asking “You say you want a TocoLution?” and demanding “taco equality”, the petition, posted on the activist website Change.org, requests simply to be allowed participation in the event.
“While we’re serious that we want to participate in the event, this entire petition campaign is meant to be ‘tongue in cheek’,” stated Prietto. “We’re not ‘mad as hell’ and, as we stress in our narrative, we’re huge fans of the LA Weekly. By promoting this petition, we hope to gain publicity for Rasta Taco, compliment the LA Weekly and further publicize their fundraising event.”
Founded in 2006 by entrepreneur Mario “Maji” Malendez, Rasta Taco is Southern California’s original made-to-order taco cart caterer, serving street-style tacos in specially designed and crafted carts that mimic authentic Mexican taco carts.
Rasta Taco specializes in corporate taco catering, as well as catering for private events and weddings. They provide services in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Santa Barbara Counties as well as the Inland Empire and San Fernando Valley.
“Rasta Taco is a “One Love” company, not a protest company,” says Prietto. “We’re willing to treat the top brass of the LA Weekly to a taco lunch to show them what Tacolandia 2015 will be missing without us. We’re reasonable people who make incredible tacos. That’s the long and short of it.”
