Sochi Winter Olympic Games Become a Teachable Moment With New Resources on Pearson’s Online Learning Exchange Community Platform
Orlando (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- The Sochi Winter Olympics are right around the corner and now the games will become a “teachable moment” with free educational resources available at Pearson’s OLEcommunity.com blog, announced today at FETC 2014. Looking at the historic games from a science, social studies, reading and math perspective, the resources expand Pearson’s Online Learning Exchange™ platform, a searchable K-12 digital library of Common Core teaching resources. Developed by a team of Pearson authors and editors, teachers will find all the latest news on the 2014 winter games as well as Olympic-themed teaching resources on the OLE Olympic series community blog.
"All around the country, students and families will be watching the excitement of the Winter Olympics. Now with our high quality and engaging digital content, teachers can take advantage of the energy around the games to immerse students in learning across the curriculum,” said Pearson Senior Vice President Lynda Cloud.
Pearson’s Olympic series profiles the sporting events, athletes, and competing countries in this year’s games. From alpine skiing to snowboarding the Sport Activity Packs comes with an overview and history of the sport, project-based lesson plans, and plenty of free resources to engage students. Athlete spotlights give students insight into the everyday lives of the competitors – many of whom are as young as they are. Students will be inspired as they get to follow alongside each athlete’s quest for a gold medal. Plus, when the Olympics officially kick off on Feb. 7, students and teachers can follow a weekly recap of the latest news from the 2014 games on the OLE Olympics blog.
“We created ‘The OLE Winter Olympic Series’ to help teachers engage their students in the authentic learning opportunities that this exciting international event offers,” said Lindsay Bellino, Director of Community for Pearson OLE. “Cities creating competitive bids to host the next Olympics, studying the economics of the games, and the science behind snow are just a few of the ways teachers and students can integrate this year’s winter Olympics into their curriculum.”
To learn more about this resource, teachers can sign up for the OLE newsletter to be notified when the OLE Winter Olympics Series makes its official debut.
