Social Good Summit Partners Announce Speakers and Meet-ups
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 17, 2015 -- The sixth annual Social Good Summit, a unique convening of world leaders, new media and technology experts, grassroots activists and voices from around the world, today announced additional speakers for this year’s Summit and approximately 100 meet-ups around the world.
Confirmed speakers for this year’s Social Good Summit, which will take place at 92Y on September 27 and 28, include:
• Victoria Beckham, English businesswoman, fashion designer, model and singer;
• Mariéme Jamme, autodidact, blogger, tech and education activist
• Ashley Judd, Actress and Political Activist;
• Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General United Nations; and
• David Miliband, President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee;
This year there will be approximately 100 meet-ups from around the world to broadcast the Summit live, which will coincide with UN Week in New York ranging from Liberia to Albania to Guatemala. The 6th Social Good Summit theme – #2030NOW: New Goals. New Tech. New Power - will tackle the SDG’s head on, weaving this historic UN Week throughout every topic onstage.
The 2015 Social Good Summit will also include an opportunity for attendees to take part in the Priceless® Elevator pitch. The Priceless® Elevator, sponsored by The MasterCard Center for Inclusive Growth, will be stationed at the 92Y and give participants an opportunity to pitch their social good ideas that could help end poverty. Every pitch represents a $500 donation to DataKind, up to a total donation of $50,000.
2015 also marks the end of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals and the onset of the world’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). The SDG’s are a groundbreaking new set of global goals that will tackle extreme poverty, health and climate change in ways we have yet to see. The SDG’s will have technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship at its core, bringing the conversations and community behind the last six years of the Social Good Summit full circle.
Each September, world leaders come together at the United Nations General Assembly to discuss global issues and ways in which to tackle them. Recognizing that the voices and ideas of concerned global citizens connected by social media and technology can be powerful forces for change, Mashable, 92Y, the United Nations Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme partner to host the Social Good Summit to expand the UN conversations to include innovators, activists and entrepreneurs around the world.
This year's Summit will address how technology and digital can help to solve global issues, such as:
• The international refugee crisis;
• Climate change;
• Lack of educational resources;
• Reproductive health; and
• Digital literacy.
A more detailed agenda can be found here.
Last year, the Social Good Summit in New York connected people throughout the world with livestreams in seven different languages, and in-person or online meetings organized by people in their own communities in over 170 countries using 45 different languages. Connected through video and social media, Social Good Summit events used the common hashtag #2030Now to share innovative ideas for the future of our world.
The goal of the Social Good Summit is to empower people everywhere to have their voices heard, both during and after UN Week. The Summit will provide a shared platform for a global call-to-action to create the kind of world we want and identify innovations that can help make this world a reality.
