Software Prohibiting Use of Non-Secure USB Flash Drives Now Available for Mac O/S at No Charge
Deerfield Beach, FL (PRWEB) October 21, 2013 -- In an effort to assist healthcare organizations and universities, SDG is providing a free edition of software that will ensure confidential data is not mistakenly saved to a computer running Mac O/S. SDG had previously released a Windows compatible version.
Employee negligence continues to be the major source of data breach, accounting for 46% of data breaches within healthcare organizations and 39% across all industries.
“Existing endpoint security solutions have been slow to provide compatibility with Mac workstations. Our software provides a simple way to restrict the use of non-encrypted USB flash drives and now can be utilized across Windows and Mac operating systems,” stated John Tate, executive vice president at SDG.
Upon installation, the software prevents use of all USB storage devices on the workstation except for LOK-IT Secure Flash Drives. LOK-IT automatically encrypts all data stored to it, and through a host of security features, if it were to be lost or stolen, it prevents access to that data. Best in class security makes LOK-IT HIPAA compliant, yet it is just as flexible to use as a standard flash drive. LOK-IT is completely operating system independent and can even be used with office equipment, medical devices and Android devices.
Tate continued, “We developed the software to further protect our customers from the data breach penalties and costs that now average an organization $5.5 million per breach. Using LOK-IT provides a way to transport records securely, and the LOK-IT USB Storage Device Control Software ensures that employees or business partners are not permitted to use standard flash drives and put our customer organizations at risk.”
As with the Windows version, the Mac O/S compatible software is available as a Free Edition and a Pro Edition. The Whitelist of USB storage devices cannot be modified in the Free Edition, where the Pro Edition allows complete control over the Whitelist.
Christine Marciano, CEO of Cyber Data Risk Managers, stated, “Today it’s conceivably not a matter of if a university or healthcare organization will experience a cyber-attack or a data breach, it’s more a question of when, how costly and how embarrassing it will prove to be. LOK-IT is one of the most effective ways that an organization can limit their portable data security risk.”
