Madison, WI (PRWEB) November 28, 2014 -- With the announcement that Something or Other Publishing (SOOP) will publish the engaging young adult sci-fi “The Time Manipulator’s Son” in mid-December, Rohini Singh is set to become the first published female science fiction novelist from her native Trinidad.
The book, which was dubbed a “delightfully original blend of sci-fi, fantasy, and Caribbean cultural flavor” by early reviewer Rionne Boyke, will hit Amazon’s virtual shelves with some wind at its back, thanks to a number of early positive reviews. Acclaimed journalist and novelist Debra Pickett wrote that the story, which takes place on a planet boasting a wide range of alien species living together, “manages to be both kid-friendly and a thoughtful examination of cultural diversity.” Cartoonist and children’s author Ray Friesen called the book “a true modern fairy tale” that evoked different elements of “The Wizard of Oz,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and “Dr. Who.”
“The Time Manipulator’s Son” tells the story of three 12-year-old boys from different walks of life who are considered outcasts among their peers. They live on the planet Chyspah, where the sky is a different color each day of the week, and where two and a half moons circle overhead. After the boys become caught in the midst of the royal family’s fall from power, they encounter both shocking secrets and bewildering supernatural occurrences. The boys must learn to embrace their differences and overcome their insecurities to solve the dangerous mysteries in front of them.
In November, Singh launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to increase awareness of the issues of self-acceptance and anti-bullying explored in her book. The campaign aims to raise enough money to get dozens of copies of “The Time Manipulator’s Son” and its message into Trinidad’s libraries and schools.
“When I was a kid, I went through my own struggles with being different,” said Singh. “But by developing my own style and learning to be comfortable in my own skin, I was able to turn my differences into a positive. I hope ‘The Time Manipulator’s Son’ will not only be fun for kids, but will also help them to understand that they have something unique and special to give the world.”
Wade Fransson, founder of Something or Other Publishing, is excited to bring Singh’s vision to bookshelves. “Rohini has created a truly unique world full of fascinating species, sights, and technologies,” said Fransson. “It’s a world and a story in which readers of all stripes—and ages—will be able to immerse themselves, and have a great time along the way.”
