Sorrel Sky Gallery Welcomes Contemporary Realist Painter James Andrew Smith
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) September 03, 2015 -- Sorrel Sky Gallery announces the representation of Contemporary Realist painter James Andrew Smith to its Santa Fe location.
James Andrew Smith incorporates flowers, garden produce, common objects and reflective surfaces into his oil paintings to evoke respect for the objects being portrayed. By utilizing commonplace objects and presenting them in a light-infused setting, Smith is able to create a distinctive artistic vision -- one that reveals the beauty of everyday objects that may be otherwise overlooked.
By emphasizing atmospheres that are full of light and space and by using common objects, Smith’s artistic approach marries the traditional Dutch painting style with American Realism, creating paintings that are emblematic of the enduring American spirit.
Inspired by his Cherokee father’s artistic talent, Smith began pursuing oil painting classes at 10 years old, studying with a respected artist in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He completed a degree in graphic design, which further developed his innate understanding of compositional elements.
Smith’s masterful oil paintings are included in invitational shows nationwide and he is represented by galleries in Cincinnati, Ohio; Austin, Texas; and in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His work is held in the permanent collection of the University of Tulsa.
Sorrel Sky Gallery owner, Shanan Campbell Wells, offered, “James has an eye for composition and a heart for creating endearing portraits of common objects that are lovingly crafted.”
Sorrel Sky Gallery’s fresh approach to Western art presents a select collection of contemporary and traditional fine art and jewelry for the discerning collector. Sorrel Sky Gallery was founded in Durango, CO in 2002 and opened its Santa Fe, NM location in 2014.
