Source Launches Mobile App to Bring Ease and Simplicity to Article-Sharing
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 20, 2016 -- Online content-sharing platform, Source announced today the launch of its mobile app for iOS and Android. Source is a place for informed, curious readers to discover, organize, share and discuss online articles.
Source aims to provide an elegant reading experience outside the media superhighway dominated by content distributors, aggregators and social feeds.
Content on Source is added, shared, and organized by users. The intelligent platform uses behavioral algorithms to learn reader preferences and guide them to articles they’ll enjoy. Readers can find and follow friends, classmates, or colleagues, exchange ideas and collaborate by adding to topic-specific boards with peers, and discover recently added and top rated articles.
Research from the Knight Foundation shows that 89 percent of U.S. smartphone owners read mobile news, with 54 percent relying on social media sites like Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter. It also shows that readers depend on social contacts as trusted sources as much, or more than, media outlets themselves. The appetite for social consumption of news is clear, yet as social media become a primary means of discovery and discussion, this environment often fails to connect people with the most relevant stories or incite meaningful conversation.
There is also a world of content that isn’t being shared because it isn’t a fit for many traditional social media outlets. Research shows that people are increasingly reluctant to post about hot-button issues in broad social networks. This has led people to consume news in a more passive way -- a trend that Source aims to change.
Source’s segmentation features make it the ideal vehicle to spark discussion on niche topics incompatible with conventional social media. Users have the ability to easily share and comment on articles with just the followers who actually care about that topic, rather than the whole network.
Journalists, bloggers, and publications can also use Source to directly share stories with their audience, view reader trends, and gather meaningful feedback. The company will be adding new tools to provide a direct line between authors and readers, which will be available in an upcoming version.
“Source was built around the simple idea that readers deserve a great environment to capture and share the articles they read online,” said Co-Founder and CEO, Andrew Lindsey. "The ultimate goal is to provide a venue for people to seamlessly curate their knowledge while discovering new content that speaks to them.”
