New York, NY (PRWEB) September 01, 2014 -- More than 200 Lipitor lawsuit (http://www.lipitorlawsuitcenter.com/) filings have been added to a federal litigation that continues to progress in the U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
A federal Case List published on August 15th shows 1,162 claims now filed over the widely-used cholesterol medication by plaintiffs who developed Type 2 diabetes allegedly due to the drug. According to claims, Pfizer Inc. failed to adequately warn patients and their doctors about this and other risks that may stem from use of its product. When court records were updated in July, 959 Lipitor diabetes lawsuits had been filed. (In re Lipitor (Atorvastatin) Litigation, MDL No. 2502)
“We are not surprised to see the number of Lipitor lawsuits continuing to increase in the District of South Carolina, as our Firm’s attorneys continue to hear from individuals who developed Type 2 diabetes allegedly caused by the cholesterol drug,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free and confidential case evaluations to individuals who allegedly sustained Lipitor-related injuries.
Lipitor Lawsuits
As Lipitor lawsuits progress in South Carolina federal court, concerns surrounding the cholesterol drug are continuing to make waves in the U.S. medical community. This and other statin medications largely began to make headlines in February 2012, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandated that Pfizer and all manufacturers of similar products warn on their labeling about a possible association with new-onset Type 2 diabetes. A month earlier, JAMA: Internal Medicine published the findings of a study revealing an increased risk for the disease in women taking Lipitor.*
Lipitor lawsuits filed in the District of South Carolina accuse Pfizer, Inc. of withholding knowledge about the statin’s possible connection with diabetes long before the drug’s label was adjusted in February 2012. Even after Lipitor’s labeling was adjusted at that time, doctors and patients remained unaware of the drug’s serious side effects, claimants allege.
Individuals who developed diabetes allegedly due to Lipitor may be eligible to receive compensation for their injury-related damages. Learn more about filing a Lipitor lawsuit by visiting Bernstein Liebhard LLP’s website, or call 800-511-5092 for a free and legal case evaluation.
