Southern Arizona's Fastest Growing Urgent Care – Dr. David Skinner's vision of a one-of-a-kind healthcare experience for every patient has become a reality
(PRWEB) January 12, 2017 -- A compassionate, dedicated physician and businessman, Dr. David Skinner, MD, PhD, MBA, has redefined the standard of outpatient medicine and in the process achieved rarified air in the Arizona healthcare world. To accomplish this extraordinary feat, Dr. Skinner carved his own path to intersect both medicine and business.
As a fresh 2008 graduate of Arizona State University’s MBA program, Dr. Skinner dove straight into the business of healthcare. While many of his business school colleagues dreamt of a place on Wall Street, Dr. Skinner stayed local. He founded a pain clinic to help individuals with unrelenting pain better manage their chronic conditions, and in doing so, he grasped the synergistic importance of caregivers committed to healing and of establishing sustainable business models to serve his community. And thus, within two short years he found himself exploring the causes of migraine pain as an MD-PhD student at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. Always leading by example, Dr. Skinner knew he had to first embody what he wished to see.
Entering healthcare with a background in business enabled Dr. Skinner to observe the cracks in the healthcare system with devastating detail. There was no continuum of care between the hospital and the neighborhoods where his patients lived. Too many patients were being lost to follow-up. Too many were seeking haven in the emergency room instead of in their local communities. Armed with a vision of how outpatient healthcare should be, one that prioritizes both the patient’s health and holistic experience, Dr. Skinner founded Southern Arizona Urgent Care (SAUC) during his second year of medical school. With his new urgent care concept he sought to bridge the gap between emergency and preventative care, all the while fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere.
In just a few short years Dr. Skinner’s dream of accessible healthcare of the highest quality began to bear fruit. SAUC now had the ability to offer a number of important patient services, including worker’s compensation evaluations, in-house radiology, in-house laboratory, in-house medications, routine vaccinations, and of course the means to treat almost everything else that might bring one into the doctor’s office. With his vision finally coming to fruition, Dr. Skinner completed his Internship in Neurology and transitioned out of residency to fully focus his efforts on improving community access to caring providers through the SAUC model of care.
Since making his move back into the business world, Dr. Skinner’s vision of the complete healthcare experience has grown substantially. SAUC now has 4 locations serving Tucson, Marana, and Oro Valley, each helping Tucsonans receive convenient and immediate healthcare right when they need it. No longer should patients needlessly wait in an emergency room for hours on end to receive stitches, set a break, or investigate a troubling ailment. Dr. Skinner is set to have a network of 12 SAUC locations in Tucson by the end of 2017, thus achieving his goal of serving the healthcare needs of his entire community through sustainable, community-oriented business.
