Southern California “Cannabis for Autism” Conference from Autism & Compassionate Care Connection Brings Hope to Children with Behavioral and Physical Symptoms
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 04, 2016 -- Children with diagnoses that include behavioral symptoms and their parents often struggle with additional symptoms such as seizures, sleeplessness, and acting-out behaviors. The California nonprofit organization Autism & Compassionate Care Connection was started by Southern California parents who have personally experienced the heartwrenching issues of epilepsy, wandering, sensory issues, and more, and who want to help other children and families. They are bringing the “Cannabis for Autism” conference to Southern California on Saturday, January 23, 2016.
The conference’s keynote speaker is Dr. Lester Grinspoon. Dr. Lester Grinspoon is an Associate Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Grinspoon was senior psychiatrist at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center in Boston for 40 years. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Grinspoon was founding editor of the American Psychiatric Association Annual Review and the Harvard Mental Health Letter. He is the author of several cannabis-related books, and he runs two marijuana websites.
Other speakers include author Thalia Michelle, executive director of MAMMA (Mothers Advocating Medical Marijuana for Autism) and cofounder of the Thinking Moms’ Revolution, and nurse and radio show host Lanny Swerdlow, RN.
Nathan Coombs, president of the Autism & Compassionate Care Connection said: “People contact us when they have exhausted other means of trying to help children’s physical and behavioral symptoms, but really this is the helpful medicinal intervention for people to try first before it gets to that point. Published research supports the medicinal properties of medical cannabis. Our organization does not promote this for recreational use – the issue is more important and serious than that: we are educating the public on something that has been shown to help seizures; foster a calmer quality of life; overcome sensory hurdles; and increase restful, healthful, regenerative sleep at night. I have a master’s degree in special education, and my wife and I have two grown boys on the autism spectrum. My wife and another mother were the inspiration behind bringing this wonderful option to the public through the nonprofit Autism & Compassionate Care Connection to help quality of life for children and families.”
The event will be held at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Registration is only $10. For more information and to register for this event, please visit http://www.ASDconnection.com and email ContactUs(at)ASDconnection(dot)com or call (760) 244-1053.
