Southern California Making a Difference With the Needy Comes Through Volunteers Giving Their Time and Resources and Coordinated by a Temecula Church, Rock Church Temecula
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- They begin setting up popup tents and arranging the tables and chairs in anticipation of the numerous homeless and needy people that will show up at the Rock Church (http://www.gotrock.org) parking lot at 3:00 pm every 3rd Sunday for the last 7 years. Weeks of picking up food and storing it in a warehouse have gone into making this one day successful. Weeks of coordinating volunteers and vendors insuring the various needs of the community have been filled such as a clothing give away, blood pressure and healthcare workers, and hair cutting beauticians. When the day is done there will have been hundreds of hours spent by The Rock Church Temecula Valley.
The collection of the food [12,000 lbs to 15,000 lbs] is just one of the activities that those in need have come to love about this community outreach. Each week starts with volunteers working with Ralph’s Temecula Perishable Donation Program collecting food. The church has a warehouse with freezers and refrigerators where they store food when it is donated by this establishment. John Benson, Love: Active Missions Director, said “Without the help of Ralph’s Perishable Donation Program, we would not be able to conduct this wonderful outreach. If not for the hundreds of Rock Church and Community Volunteers that help collect, transport, and distribute these foods, we would not be able to serve so many people”.
There is also a team of beauticians who set up shop and give away free haircuts to those who need them. Those in need of a haircut arrive early and are taken care of by 6 to 10 beauticians who volunteer.
There is also a team of healthcare providers such as nurses, massage therapists, pharmacists’, and first responders, who have set up tables to take blood pressure, blood sugar levels, do vision exams, give Flu Shots, and dispense supplements, vitamins, and other preventive health care products. People who do not have immediate access to a healthcare provider can utilize the services this healthcare team provides.
Last, another section is set up with clean, racked and sized clothing for adults and children. Volunteers have collected, cleaned, sorted and hung clothing so those in need of it can find their size and take it.
While food is the major takeaway for those in need, this one very well coordinated event could save hundreds of dollars for this community by early detection of a health issue or find clothing that would cost hundreds of dollars if purchased new. This community outreach program says a lot about the unsung heroes of our time. Rock Church Temecula Valley is an organization that preaches the love of God and then goes about seeing how it can practice what it preaches. Those who would like to be a part of this program can donate funds or their time thereby helping make Temecula a better community and, even more, helping those in need in the community.
