Southern Skillet Vinegars Make Their Charleston Debut
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- When Southern Skillet Vinegars releases its 2013 batch of handcrafted boutique vinegars this week, the freshly bottled fan favorite Heirloom Tomato and Satsuma varieties will make their debut properly, accompanied by a Charleston gentleman. Travis Grimes, Chef de Cuisine at the city’s famous restaurant Husk, has created dishes using the small-batch Gulf Coast vinegars on Husk’s summer menus, which are freshly created each day.
“We are thrilled that Sean Brock and Travis Grimes discovered our vinegars and have done just what we hope home cooks will do: find unique ways to work them into recipes where they enhance other authentic Southern ingredients,” said Southern Skillet Vinegar Director of Sales, Virginia Sutton. “Travis has also been kind enough to share two of his recipes – Green Tomato Chow Chow and General Tso’s Glaze – and will be featured on the Southern Skillet web site as this summer’s seasonal chef.”
Southern Skillet Vinegars are natural, vegan and raw fruit wine vinegars with no artificial flavors, ethanol, or enhancers, made solely from vine-ripe Gulf Coast fruits harvested from family farms. The hand-bottled vinegars are well-aged and released in small batches annually each summer. This year’s offerings include Red and White Muscadine, Blueberry, Satsuma, Sugar Cane, and Heirloom Tomato. After a blitz of raves in gourmet gift guides last fall, several flavors were sold out by Christmas, and Sutton anticipates a similar wave this fall.
Grimes and Husk mastermind Sean Brock, a James Beard Award winner who launched his second Husk in Nashville this summer, share a passion for creating authentic Southern cuisine from indigenous and local ingredients.
“At Husk we very much celebrate the traditional South,” Grimes says. “We support local farmers and fishermen; if it’s a quality Southern product, we want it at the restaurant.”
