Spa of the Rockies Manager to Participate in International Mentoring Initiative
Glenwood Springs, Colo. (PRWEB) September 25, 2014 -- The names of the fifteen spa industry veterans that will lead a global initiative to educate the next generation of spa leaders were announced at the Global Spa & Wellness Summit (GSWS) held Sept. 10 – 12 in Marrakesh, Morocco. The selected group represents spa interests from around the world, including the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the USA. Among the three representatives from the United States is Spa of the Rockies’ David Erlich.
The Global Mentorship Pilot Program is intended to inspire spa managers on a personal level and help them navigate an industry that requires a broad mix of both hard and soft skills. Mentors, like Erlich will help spa interns deal with all aspects of the job including coping with stress, time management, priority sorting and making wise career choices.
“Using qualified leaders ‘in the field’ to download what they know to current managers is beneficial not only to potential employers but also allows the mentee to ask real-time questions and gain critical experience,” said Erlich.
The first Mentorship Pilot Program will begin in Jan. 2015 and run through March; a second program will run April through June. Mentors will connect with their interns several times per month via telephone, Skype or face-to-face where possible.
“Even though there is a worldwide emphasis on the spa and wellness sectors, many institutions have yet to tailor their curriculums to specific industry needs in a targeted manner. It’s my hope that a student who desires a fantastic career in spa and wellness will be able to benefit from some of my mistakes and learn how to avoid a few of their own while mastering the leadership skills needed for the next generation of operators,” said Erlich.
With 25 years of hospitality and spa industry experience, Erlich is well qualified to mentor the next generation. Prior to landing at Glenwood Hot Springs, Erlich was the executive assistant manager at the Viceroy Anguilla. He served as regional director of spa operations for Fairmont Hotels for the western U.S. and Hawaii, and as the executive director of spa and retail operations for Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa, a geothermal spring spa in Sonoma, Calif. Erlich also spent time overseeing spa and retail operations as executive director for Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea in Maui, Hawaii.
